Sylhet: Primary and mass education (PMED) adviser Dr Bidhan Chandra Ray Poddar announced today that the government is gearing up to distribute new textbooks to primary students by January next year. This statement was made during a meeting with division level officers at the divisional commissioner office of Sylhet. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Bidhan mentioned that modifications have been made to the textbooks to reflect the changed situation, and work orders have already been issued for printing these new books. The meeting, chaired by additional commissioner of Sylhet division Debjit Singha, also saw participation from PMED additional secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain, Additional director general of the Primary Education Directorate Abu Nur Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, deputy inspector general of police for Sylhet range Md Mushfequr Rahman, and commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Md Rezaul Karim. Dr Bidhan highlighted that while book festivals have traditionally been held on January 1, effor ts are being made to ensure the new books are ready for distribution in January. He asserted that the country's administrative structure remains efficient and reliable, even amid challenges such as the July-August uprising. Dr Bidhan emphasized the importance of sincere efforts from division officials in supporting the interim government's reform activities. He further stressed that effective management of primary education is crucial, as individuals from various social strata are involved. Dr Bidhan called on the local government and engineering division to construct standard facilities for educational institutions and urged the local administration to monitor these developments closely. Additionally, Dr Bidhan shared that the Ministry of Public Administration has approved the creation of 9,572 posts for assistant headmasters in primary schools. This move is expected to facilitate promotions for assistant teachers. He also participated in another meeting with field level officers to explore strategies for enhancing primary education, followed by a visit to the Sylhet Primary Training Institute (PTI).
