Dhaka: The government has announced plans to organize a series of roadshows aimed at attracting both local and foreign investments into state-owned factories that are currently closed or operating at a loss. This decision was reached during a meeting focused on the reopening and management of these factories, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Industries.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman led the meeting held at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan (Hasan Shiplu) stated that the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to finalize preparations for the roadshows by the end of June. The meeting included discussions on the current status, challenges, and future prospects of these factories, with detailed reports presented by senior officials from various institutions under the Ministry of Industries.
Prime Minister Rahman emphasized the need for identifying effective strategies to swiftly reopen closed factories and transform unprofitable ones into profitable enterprises. Additionally, he underscored the importance of attracting both domestic and foreign investments to these sectors. During the meeting, it was highlighted that recommendations from an expert committee are being sought to develop actionable plans for the factories' revival.
Present at the meeting were Commerce and Industries Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Prime Minister's Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, among other officials.
