Dhaka:The government is set to implement integrated medical oxygen projects across at least 20 districts this fiscal year to bolster the nation's health system, as announced by State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhit.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Muhit emphasized the critical nature of medical oxygen, highlighting its importance not just as an immediate necessity but as a fundamental component of health security in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and in line with the World Health Organization's 2023 resolution.

The minister spoke at the conclusion of the 'Bangladesh Oxygen Summit' held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organized by IUB's Centre for Health, Implementation and Policy Sciences (CHIPS) and the Bangladesh Oxygen Network. He outlined the government's efforts, which include forming a high-level committee and preparing a Development Project Proposal (DPP) to establish an integrated oxygen network in the target districts.

Dr. Muhit also stressed the importance of developing a 'National Oxygen Roadmap' for 2026-2030, enhancing domestic innovation in the health sector, and incorporating training on oxygen therapy into medical curricula. He acknowledged past coordination issues in oxygen management and underscored the need for a legal framework to standardize ambulance services and ensure consistent oxygen supply, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable communities.

The summit also featured discussions on creating a sustainable medical oxygen ecosystem through public-private partnerships, emphasizing affordability and equity.
