Dhaka: The government has announced a comprehensive series of events to observe Genocide Day on March 25, marking the brutalities inflicted by the Pakistani occupation forces on the Bangalee population during the infamous night of March 25, 1971.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day will feature discussions in educational institutions focusing on the significance of the genocide, with freedom fighters and notable figures sharing their personal experiences and memories of the 1971 atrocities. Additionally, a seminar dedicated to the topics of Genocide and the Liberation War is scheduled to take place at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon at 10 am.

Messages from the President and the Chief Adviser will be delivered, accompanied by a photographic exhibition and documentary screenings in all city corporations, including Dhaka. The day’s events will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar to reach a wide audience.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques following the Zuhr prayers, with other places of worship conducting prayers at their convenience, honoring the martyrs of March 25, 1971. To further commemorate the day, a symbolic one-minute blackout will be observed nationwide from 10:30 pm to 10:31 pm, with restrictions on any form of illumination in all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings and establishments during the night.
