Dhaka: The government today issued a directive urging all public and private offices, as well as households, to maintain a minimum air conditioning temperature of 25°C. This initiative is part of a broader power-saving campaign aimed at addressing the anticipated rise in electricity demand during the upcoming summer season.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a circular from the Cabinet Division highlighted the expected increase in electricity demand due to the convergence of the summer season with the month of Ramadan and the irrigation period. The circular emphasized the potential for managing this heightened demand by setting air conditioning thermostats to a fixed temperature of 25°C.
The circular, issued in accordance with an advisory from the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, called for all public, autonomous, statutory, and private institutions to adhere to the stipulated temperature settings for air conditioning units. This measure is intended to mitigate the strain on the power supply during peak demand periods.
Furthermore, the notification urged the ministries of commerce and social welfare, along with the NGO Affairs Bureau, to disseminate the directive to the private sector. This includes reaching out to various business and trade bodies, as well as voluntary organizations, to ensure widespread compliance with the temperature regulation initiative.
