Dhaka: The government has announced a series of initiatives designed to promote joyful learning among students, as stated by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon. The minister emphasized the implementation of school uniform and midday meal programs as key strategies to boost school attendance. Plans are underway to expand the midday meal program to all upazilas nationwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Milon shared these insights while addressing a workshop focused on the ‘Learn Through Play’ Information Book, held at a city hotel. He revealed that new textbooks, ‘Sports’ and ‘Bangladesh Culture,’ will be introduced in fourth-grade curricula by the 2027 academic year. Additionally, a textbook titled ‘Learning with Happiness’ is being developed for sixth-grade students. The curriculum for first graders will also include sports starting in 2028.
Dr. Milon highlighted the importance of promoting indigenous games within educational settings and acknowledged the current shortage of teachers. He proposed the creation of a ‘Retired Teachers Pool’ to leverage the expertise of retired educators. He also called for collective efforts to build a prosperous Bangladesh under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, speaking as a special guest, underscored the necessity of providing children with joyful learning experiences to cultivate their interest in education. He advocated for collaboration in enhancing primary education.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque discussed government initiatives aimed at increasing playgrounds and nurturing athletic talent across the country. The event was chaired by Farid Ahmed, Director General of the National Academy for Primary Education, with other dignitaries such as Shahina Ferdousi, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, and Suman Sengupta, Country Director for Save the Children, in attendance.
