Sylhet: Industries, Jute and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today announced that the government has initiated emergency measures to conserve electricity in response to the ongoing global energy situation. He emphasized the importance of adhering to these measures during a press briefing with journalists in Sylhet.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister, during his brief visit to the city, met with local business representatives at his residence around 4:00 pm. He urged shop owners to close their establishments during the peak electricity demand period at 6:00 pm to alleviate pressure on the power grid. Muktadir highlighted the global nature of the current energy situation and urged everyone to follow government directives diligently.

The minister explained the necessity of these measures by comparing them to daylight saving adjustments practiced in other countries. He reassured that industrial production would not be significantly affected, as most factories rely on gas, and the Ministry of Energy has ensured sufficient gas supply for production planning.

Furthermore, Muktadir addressed concerns about the impact on exports, noting that the slowdown in global consumption has affected exports worldwide. He clarified that the decline in ready-made garment exports is consistent with trends observed in other competing countries.

The event was attended by prominent local figures, including Sylhet city BNP president Rezaul Hasan Qoyes Lodi, former president Nasim Hossain, and other local party leaders and activists.
