Dhaka:Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher announced efforts to develop livable and sustainable cities through planned urbanization across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government has initiated a project to construct 100,000 flats for individuals with limited income sources, aiming to ensure planned urbanization nationwide. Steps have been taken to formulate and implement master plans in various city corporations, districts, and key urban areas.
The announcement was made before a rally celebrating 'World Habitat Day-2026,' which began at Zia Udyan and concluded at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre. The event saw participation from State Minister for Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manzur, ministry officials, and representatives from related organizations.
Zakaria emphasized the importance of comprehensive master plans to prevent unplanned urban growth. These plans include developing housing, roads, communication systems, and essential civic infrastructure, which are government priorities.
He also encouraged participation in the seminar and fair organized for World Habitat Day to further discuss and promote these initiatives.
