Rajbari:Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning, Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, stated that the government inherited a fragile economy and that Bangladesh is currently experiencing a critical period of economic transition. He made this statement during an exchange of views with journalists at the Rajbari Poura Milonayatan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Titumir highlighted that low- and middle-income people are under considerable pressure due to the economic situation. He noted that the decline in private-sector investment has exacerbated the employment crisis. Additionally, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and rising energy prices have added new challenges to the country's economy.
Dr. Titumir also mentioned that different organizations have presented varying projections regarding Bangladesh's GDP growth. He referred to the International Monetary Fund's GDP growth projections, pointing out that some discussions on social media have overlooked fundamental issues. Without necessary reforms, he cautioned, economic growth could decline further.
The adviser emphasized the government's reform initiatives, including restoring discipline in the banking sector and increasing revenue collection as urgent priorities. Furthermore, he mentioned that the government has implemented several social protection programs to prevent people from falling below the poverty line amid growing inflationary pressures.
The meeting was attended by Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Abdus Salam, District Information Officer Rekha Islam, and journalists from various print and electronic media outlets in the district.
