Dhaka: The government has initiated the formation of district-level committees to oversee the observance of the student and public uprising days in July and August across the nation. These committees are part of a structured effort to commemorate the historical events.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committees, led by the Deputy Commissioner in each district, will consist of 35 members. This development was confirmed through a gazette notification released on Thursday by Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Md. Humayun Kabir. The Additional Deputy Commissioner has been designated as the member secretary of these committees.
Among the committee members are key district officials including the district magistrate, police superintendent, and chief executive officer of the district council. Other participants include civil surgeons, executive engineers from various departments, and representatives from educational institutions. The committee is also inclusive of representatives from martyred and injured families of the July uprising, political figures, and media personalities.
The primary responsibility of these district committees is to observe and implement the programs planned by the executive committee to mark the days of the July mass uprising, spanning from July 1 to August 5. The committees have the flexibility to co-opt additional members if necessary and will conduct meetings as required to fulfill their mandate.
