Dhaka: The government has implemented extensive security measures at cattle markets nationwide to ensure safe and efficient trading ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid announced. The measures include the installation of counterfeit currency detection machines and on-site banking services to facilitate smooth transactions.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Aminur Rashid inspected the Diabari cattle market in the capital and confirmed the deployment of fake note detector machines to curb the circulation of counterfeit currency during the peak Eid trading period. Additionally, he highlighted the provision of dedicated banking services at these markets, enabling sellers to securely deposit their earnings or open bank accounts instantly.
The minister assured that the country possesses an adequate supply of sacrificial animals, with local farmers and ranchers producing enough cows, goats, and buffaloes to meet the national demand for Eid. Addressing security concerns, he stated that administration officials, law enforcement agencies, and volunteer teams are on duty around the clock at major markets. Measures such as loudspeaker announcements, strict monitoring, and dedicated assistance cells have been implemented to quickly trace and return missing animals to their owners.
Regarding the illegal inflow of cattle through borders, the minister emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy. Directives have been issued to border guards, local administration, and law enforcement agencies following an inter-ministerial meeting held ahead of the Eid season.
Minister Aminur Rashid also discussed the pricing dynamics of livestock markets, noting the reliance on bargaining based on an animal's health, size, build, and appearance. He proposed the introduction of a live-weight pricing system in the future for more standardized transactions. He dismissed concerns about market manipulation, citing the large number of buyers and sellers as a deterrent to the formation of artificial price syndicates.
To ensure discipline, security, and smooth transactions at cattle markets in the capital and across the country, adequate personnel have been deployed, with measures in place until Eid day. The visit to the Diabari cattle market was also attended by Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahzaman Khan and Director Dr Md Bayzer Rahman.
