Khulna: The government has commenced the distribution of 1,461.38 metric tonnes of rice to 146,138 distressed families across Khulna district in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr. This initiative, which started yesterday, is part of the Vulnerable Group Feeding Programme (VGF) aimed at supporting families in need.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rice distribution is being carried out through 146,138 VGF Cards distributed across 68 unions in nine upazilas and two pourosovas in the district. The District Relief Office has detailed the allocation of rice as follows: 130.780 tonnes for 13,078 families in Batiaghata upazila, 105.370 tonnes for 10,537 families in Dakop upazila, 261.360 tonnes for 26,136 families in Dumuria upazila, 131.670 tonnes for 13,167 families in Dighalia upazila, 179.510 tonnes for 17,951 families in Koyra upazila, 215.890 tonnes for 21,589 families in Paikgachha upazila, 118.750 tonnes for 11,875 families in Fultala upazila, 140.360 tonnes for 14,036 families in Rupsha upazila, and 100.670 tonnes for 10,067 families in Terokhada upazila.
Additionally, 46.210 tonnes of rice are being distributed to 4,621 families in Paikgachha pourosova and 30.810 tonnes to 3,081 families in Chalna pourosova. Khulna District Relief and Disaster Management officer Abdul Karim confirmed, "We are already distributing VGF rice among beneficiary card holders." Each beneficiary family is receiving 10 kilograms of VGF rice under this programme.
Karim further assured that any complaints regarding irregularities in the distribution process would result in stringent actions against those responsible.
