Dhaka: The government has mandated that all primary, secondary, and higher education institutions ensure that their playgrounds remain accessible for use outside of school hours and during holidays. This directive aims to encourage physical activity among local boys and girls by providing them with opportunities to play.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) issued an order based on a ministry letter, instructing the heads of both government and private colleges and secondary schools to take necessary actions to implement this initiative. The decision was previously discussed in an inter-ministerial committee meeting, emphasizing the importance of utilizing sports grounds at both city and village levels nationwide.

The ministry’s communication stressed that existing playgrounds at educational institutions need to be preserved and made available for community use after regular school activities and on weekends or other holidays. This initiative is part of a broader strategy devised during the first meeting of the ‘Inter-Ministerial Committee,’ which was established to oversee the allocation and utilization of sports fields across the country.

The DSHE disseminated the order to directors, deputy directors, district education officers, as well as upazila and thana secondary education officers, ensuring that the policy is enforced throughout the country.
