Khagrachhari: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain today emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts, in collaboration with international organizations, to facilitate the repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar with their rights intact. He made these remarks while addressing questions from journalists during a communal harmony rally at the Khagrachhari Upazila Parishad auditorium on Tuesday evening.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Khalid highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and secure repatriation process for the forcibly displaced Rohingyas. He also noted the allocation of Tk 6 crore for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, ensuring that preparations are nearly complete and security measures are in place.
In his address, Dr Khalid also spoke about Bangladesh’s economic progress, remarking that the country’s foreign currency reserve has grown from US$ 20 billion to US$ 31 billion since the current government took office. He reflected on Bangladesh’s journey since gaining independence from Pakistan, noting the country’s advancements in currency stability and development.
Dr Khalid further observed that Bangladesh serves as a model for communal harmony in the region. He expressed concern about individuals who, despite earning in Bangladesh, maintain a second home abroad, suggesting it reflects a lack of patriotism. Dr Khalid emphasized the importance of unity and hard work among residents, stating, “Those of us who live here love the country, work hard, make sacrifices, and live together in harmony-this is our safe abode.”
The event was chaired by Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam and featured speeches from Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Sadeq Ahmed, Commander of Khagrachhari Zone of Bangladesh Army Lt Col Md Khademul Islam, and Superintendent of Police Arefin Jewel. Various local public representatives, political leaders, educationists, and religious leaders were also present at the occasion.
