Dhaka:Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain emphasized the government's dedication to fulfilling election pledges by protecting children's rights under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This commitment continues the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zahid described the current government as child-friendly, highlighting efforts to involve children in various matters by prioritizing their opinions and rights. He made these remarks at the conclusion of the 'Children's Rights Day 2026' and the 50th anniversary celebration of Bangladesh Shishu Academy held at the academy auditorium.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was the chief guest at the event, with Selima Rahman, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, attending as a special guest.
Zahid called for collective efforts for the overall protection of women and children to ensure the country's progress. During the event, prizes were awarded to children who had excelled in painting competitions across the country, and attendees enjoyed cultural performances by the children.
The celebrations were inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife on October 6, marking the start of the three-day event. Women and Children Affairs Secretary Dr. Rowshan Ara Begum gave the welcome address, and the Director General of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Arzu Ara Begum, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by members of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Board, senior officials from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, representatives from child rights organizations, writers, journalists, civil society representatives, and children from shishu academies across various districts.
