Kalmakanda:Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal emphasized that the government is implementing a zero-tolerance policy against corruption to create a society free from discrimination and corruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kamal assured that strict legal actions will be taken against anyone found involved in corrupt practices, including ruling party members. His comments came during an address at an event for data collectors and supervisors of the 'Family Card' programme and 'Ethnic Survey-2026' at the Kalmakanda Upazila Parishad auditorium.
The event was organized jointly by the upazila administration and the Upazila Social Services Office, with Kalmakanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer NM Abdullah Al Mamun presiding. Kamal highlighted the importance of the Family Card project in the government's efforts to transform Bangladesh into a welfare state under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He noted that previous irregularities in card distribution have been tackled by revising the data collection process.
Kamal instructed data collectors to prioritize the most disadvantaged households, followed by homeless individuals and those living on others' land, ensuring financially stable individuals are not prioritized. He stressed that data collectors receive a fixed honorarium and must avoid any form of financial misconduct.
He also warned that he would personally take legal action against any member of his party, BNP, or its affiliates involved in extortion or corruption.
Addressing the electricity crisis, Kamal expressed regret over the power shortage affecting students' studies and urged energy conservation. He reassured attendees of the government's efforts to resolve the issue swiftly.
Kamal praised ethnic minority communities like the Garo and Hajong for their resilience and integrity despite facing hardships. He committed to preventing past irregularities, such as misappropriation of social safety-net funds, and promised stipends and housing for ethnic minority students and homeless people.
Finally, he vowed to serve the people of Kalmakanda and Durgapur impartially for the next five years, likening his role to that of a gardener dedicated to nurturing the development of the area.
