Dhaka: The government today approved separate proposals for procuring two cargoes of LNG from different sources to meet the country's growing demand. The approvals came from the 29th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat. Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting and briefed reporters. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day's purchase committee meeting approved proposals for procuring LNG and fertilizer. Following two separate proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market through the international quotation method from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte Limited, Singapore, with an estimated cost of around Taka 502.94 crore, with each MMBtu of LNG costing $11.97. Moreover, Petrobangla is set to procure another cargo of LNG from M/S Posco International Corporation, South Korea, for approximately Taka 486.42 cro re, with each MMBtu of LNG priced at about $11.95. In addition to the LNG procurement, the meeting approved two proposals from the Ministry of Shipping and one each from the Bridges Division, Local Government Division, and ICT Division.
