Government Approves Procurement of LNG Cargos and Bulk Carriers

Dhaka: The government has given the green light to proposals for the procurement of two cargos of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and two bulk carriers, initiatives aimed at addressing the rising demand for energy and enhancing goods transportation within the country.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were granted during the 31st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year. The meeting took place at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Bangladesh Secretariat and was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.



Petrobangla, following separate proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, is set to procure one LNG cargo from the spot market through an international quotation method from M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Limited, Singapore, at a cost of approximately Taka 502.94 crore, with each MMBtu of LNG priced at $11.97. Additionally, Petrobangla will procure another LNG cargo from M/S PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Limited, Singapore, costing around Taka 484.38 crore, with each MMBtu of LNG priced at $11.90.



Further, the Ministry of Shipping’s proposal has led to the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s decision to acquire two bulk carriers, each with a capacity ranging from 55,000 to 66,000 DWT, from Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC, NY, USA, for around Taka 935.71 crore.



The meeting also approved a proposal from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education for procuring the printing, binding, and supply of textbooks for classes 1, 2, and 3 for the calendar year 2026. The approval covers 96 out of 98 lots, with the procurement valued at approximately Taka 200.92 crore.
