Dhaka: The government has decided to procure 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati boiled rice for the fiscal year 2026 through an international open tendering process. This decision was made during the 44th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the procurement proposal was placed by the Ministry of Food and will be executed by the Directorate General of Food. The supplier selected for this procurement is M/S Gurudeo Exports Corporation Private Limited, based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. This contract falls under package-3 of the procurement plan.
The total cost for this consignment is estimated to be Taka 217.68 crore, with each metric ton of rice priced at US$356.78. Gurudeo Exports Corporation Private Limited emerged as the responsive bidder following the evaluation of bids submitted through the international tender process.
The imported rice is intended to be added to the government’s food stock to aid in market stabilization efforts.
