Dhaka:The government has granted authorization to negotiate with two US Wheat Associates entities to import wheat from the United States under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. This decision was made during the 36th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held on Wednesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Food Ministry submitted a proposal seeking policy approval to commence negotiations with the two authorized entities, who offered the lowest prices for the wheat import. The committee's recommendation for policy approval marks a significant step towards initiating the negotiations with the selected bidders.
The press briefing did not reveal specific details such as the quantity of wheat to be imported, the names of the selected entities, or the prices they offered. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure wheat supplies from the United States through the G2G framework.
