Dhaka: Following the appointment of a new vice-chancellor at the University of Dhaka, the government has named new vice-chancellors for six other public universities, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Monday. Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education, the minister stated that official notifications regarding the appointments will be issued soon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the new appointments are as follows: Professor Md Faridul Islam has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Rajshahi. Professor Dr. Md. Rais Uddin will serve as the Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University; he is currently the chairman of the university's Islamic Studies Department and president of the teachers' association. Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan is set to become the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University.
Professor Md Nurul Islam has been named as the Vice-Chancellor of Central University; he is currently serving as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of National University. Professor Md Masud will take on the role of Vice-Chancellor at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). Lastly, Professor Md Al Forqan will assume the position of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Chittagong.
In addition to these appointments, Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, who is currently the vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. He is a professor in the Physics Department of the university. Furthermore, Professor Mamun Ahmed, currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, has been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).
