Dhaka: The government has announced the appointment of 41 new deputy attorney generals (DAG) and 67 assistant attorney generals (AAG) to advocate on its behalf in legal proceedings before the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the solicitor wing of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs released separate gazette notifications confirming that these appointments would be effective immediately. The decision to appoint new legal representatives comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its representation in the judiciary.
In addition to these appointments, the government has rescinded the appointments of 18 AAGs who were previously appointed on August 28, 2024. On that date, a total of 66 DAGs and 161 AAGs had been appointed. The reasons behind the cancellation of these appointments were not detailed in the gazette notifications.
