Government Announces Three-Day Holiday for Durga Puja

Dhaka:A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Public Administration declaring a three-day government holiday for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja. The holiday will span October 20, 21, and 22, covering Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, The notification specifies that October 20 will be a holiday by executive order for Mahanavami, and October 21 will be a general holiday for Bijaya Dashami. October 22, initially scheduled as a working day, has now been declared a holiday by executive order as well. This adjustment results in a continuous three-day government holiday from October 20 to 22.

Following these holidays, government officials and employees will also benefit from the regular weekly holidays on October 23 and 24, which fall on Friday and Saturday, thus enjoying a five-day break. As a result of this extended holiday period, government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain open on Saturday, October 17.

Essential services including electricity, water, gas, fire services, ports, sanitation, telecommunications, postal services, and related transport and personnel will continue to operate during the holiday. Hospitals, emergency medical services, doctors, health workers, and personnel involved in transporting medicines and medical equipment will also remain operational.

Bangladesh Bank is expected to provide necessary instructions for banking operations, while the Supreme Court will issue guidelines for court activities. The Ministry of Labour and Employment will ensure the implementation of the general holiday in private industrial establishments, factories, and other institutions under the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
