Dhaka: The government has unveiled an extensive array of programs to commemorate Victory Day-2025 with appropriate dignity and solemnity. The plans were finalized at an inter-ministerial meeting in Dhaka, spearheaded by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Messages from the President and the Chief Advisor will be disseminated through print and electronic media, accompanied by special articles in newspapers, literary magazines, and supplements. The national flag will be displayed on all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings across the country, as well as at Bangladesh embassies and missions abroad. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with BTV, Bangladesh Betar, and various private radio and TV channels, will ensure the public is informed of the rules and regulations for hoisting the national flag, including the correct size and color.
Key government and private buildings will be illuminated, with a notable exception for December 14. On December 16, a thirty-one cannon salute will mark the occasion in all districts and upazilas, including Dhaka. At sunrise, ceremonies at the National Memorial in Savar will see the President and Chief Advisor laying wreaths, followed by tributes from members of the Bir Shrestha family, war-wounded freedom fighters, and foreign diplomats.
District and upazila levels will host similar programs, including a 9 am gathering of students for flag hoisting, the national anthem, parades, and displays honoring the freedom fighters. A three-day victory fair will also take place, featuring children's competitions in writing, recitation, and painting, alongside cultural programs inspired by the Liberation War.
Bangladesh embassies abroad will hold discussions on independence and the Liberation War, involving foreign professors, prominent citizens, and Bangladeshis residing overseas. The Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard will open BIWTA wharfs at major ports and Sadarghat to the public from 9 am to sunset.
Sports events such as football matches, T20 cricket tournaments, and traditional games like kabaddi will be organized at district and upazila levels, involving educational institutions. Private radio and TV channels, along with Bangladesh Betar, will broadcast programs celebrating the Liberation War's history, complemented by film screenings in cinema halls and open spaces.
Museums and entertainment venues will offer free access for children, while colorful cultural programs will take place at tourist centers nationwide. Feasts will be organized in hospitals, prisons, and various welfare centers, with main roads adorned with banners and colorful flags.
Commemorative postage stamps will be issued by the Directorate of Posts, and special prayers will be conducted in places of worship, praying for the martyred freedom fighters, and the nation's peace and prosperity.
