Dhaka: Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced that the government has decided to appoint new Vice-Chancellors to seven public universities, including Dhaka University (DU), Rajshahi University (RU), and Chattogram University (CU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister revealed that a new chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) will also be appointed. These announcements were made during a press conference at the ministry's conference room, where the minister stated that the ministry will soon issue gazette notifications after completing the necessary formalities.
Prof. Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam, currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, has been nominated as the new Vice-Chancellor of DU. This decision follows the resignation of DU's previous VC, Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, on February 22.
Additionally, Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, the pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, has been nominated as the new chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. This change comes after the current UGC Chairman, Prof. SMA Faiz, requested relief from his duties due to health issues.
The minister also announced the appointments of new vice-chancellors at six other universities. Prof. Md Faridul Islam will take over as the VC of RU, while Prof. Rais Uddin, the chairman of the Islamic Studies Department at Jagannath University, has been nominated as the university's VC. Prof. Siddiqur Rahman Khan will assume the role of VC at Bangladesh Open University, and Prof. Md Nurul Islam, the current Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the National University, has been nominated as the VC of Dhaka Central University.
Furthermore, Prof. Md Masud has been nominated as the new VC of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), with Prof. Mohammad Al-Forkan set to become the VC of CU.
