Dhaka: The government has increased the house rent for the teachers and employees of Monthly Payment Order (MPO) listed non-government educational institutions to 15 percent. This increment is set to be implemented in two phases and is subject to certain conditions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government approved this increase to be effective from November 1, 2025, with the allowance set at 7.5 percent of the basic salary, with a minimum of Tk 2,000. An additional 7.5 percent increase will take effect from July 1, 2026, bringing the total to 15 percent of the basic salary. The Finance Division issued an official order today, detailing these changes.

The Finance Division has considered the government’s current budgetary constraints and noted that this additional facility will need to be adjusted in the next pay scale. The order mandates compliance with existing MPO policies, including the Non-Government Educational Institution (School and College) Manpower Structure and MPO Policy 2021, Madrasah MPO Policy 2018 (amended up to November 23, 2020), and Vocational, Business Management, Agriculture and Fisheries Diploma MPO Policy 2018 (amended up to November 23, 2020).

The increase will not lead to any arrear claims for MPO-listed teachers and staff. All financial regulations must be strictly observed, with any irregularities in expenditure making the bill-approving authority liable. The administrative ministry has been directed to issue a government order (G.O.) and send four copies to the Finance Division for endorsement. Additionally, the Finance Division’s earlier circular (Memo No. 260, dated October 16, 2025) has been cancelled with this new order.
