Amman:The capital Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam emphasized the government's commitment to transforming football and other sports into professional avenues and sources of livelihood, beyond their traditional role as entertainment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister articulated this vision at an award ceremony for a football tournament organized by the Government Employees' Welfare Centre. He highlighted the government's goal to provide financial security to nationally recognized skilled players. The minister believes that sports development is crucial for nurturing a physically and mentally healthy, capable, and competent young generation.
Rabiul Alam further stated that sports are vital in fostering mental strength and physical capability in a nation. He encouraged young people to immerse themselves in sports, which he believes will help them become disciplined, cooperative, and responsible citizens. He also noted that creating professional opportunities in sports can make it an effective livelihood.
The minister praised the performances of players in the tournament, emphasizing that their skills and teamwork were commendable. He noted that such competitions enhance local football practice and improve players' skills. He also stressed the importance of accepting both victory and defeat gracefully.
Rabiul Alam conveyed that the values learned through sports, such as tolerance and mutual respect, should be extended to political and social spheres. He urged the development of a culture that respects differing opinions and works towards public welfare.
He expressed the government's desire to foster a united society with entertainment, harmony, and cooperation, emphasizing integrity in politics and accountability. The minister commended the Government Employees' Welfare Centre for providing recreational opportunities and promoting social activities among government personnel.
The event concluded with a call for unity among spectators, players, media, and officials to tackle national crises, highlighting that the spirit of sportsmanship should resonate throughout society. The football competition saw participation from 16 teams this year.
