Rangpur: Leaders of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) today warned of initiating a robust movement if those responsible for the mass murders during the July-August uprising are not promptly arrested and brought to justice. The warning was issued during a protest rally and human chain event organized by the Rangpur district branch of GOP at Kachari Bazar area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the protest activities included a march commencing from the Public Library ground, spearheaded by senior council member Hanif Khan Sajib, who called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved in the mass murders. The procession traversed the City Bazaar before culminating at the Kachari Bazaar for the protest rally and human chain event.

Key figures at the rally included Hanif Khan Sajib, former District Acting Convener Sher-e-Khoda Asadullah, Former Member-Secretary Ashiqur Rahman, District President of the Sramik Odhikar Parishad Ariful Islam, and District General Secretary of the Jubo Odhikar Parishad Kamruzzaman. District Representative of the Chatra Odhikkar Parishad Imran Kabir and District Committee Member Haji Mohammad Jamal also addressed the gathering.

Hanif Khan Sajib criticized the government for failing to arrest the perpetrators even six months after the uprising. He argued that the delay in initiating trials is undermining the integrity of the July Revolution and warned of a strong movement by students and citizens if their demands are not met. Subsequently, GOP leaders submitted a memorandum to the district administration, reiterating their demand for the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible for the uprising’s casualties.
