Feni: Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan, a candidate of Gono Odhikar Parishad for the Feni-2 constituency, began a hunger strike on Thursday morning outside the office of the Returning Officer. His protest aimed to demand the withdrawal of officials accused of administrative bias.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the hunger strike commenced at approximately 8:30am at the main gate of the Returning Officer’s office. Tariqul was joined by a small group of party workers. The protest briefly disrupted operations as several vehicles belonging to Additional Deputy Commissioners were temporarily blocked and had to find an alternate route to enter the office premises.

During the protest, Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan alleged harassment and threats by Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jasim Uddin. He claimed that there were severe violations of the electoral code of conduct in the Feni-2 constituency, with no effective action being taken to address these issues. Tariqul accused Sadar AC Jasim Uddin of mistreatment and issuing threats, while the Returning Officer allegedly failed to intervene.

Tariqul further alleged that campaign activities, including billboards and colorful displays, were being permitted in a biased manner favoring a particular candidate. He warned that if Jasim Uddin was not withdrawn within eight hours, he would be compelled to announce more stringent protest measures.
