Chattogram: BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today emphasized that straying from consensus in politics could lead to division within both the political sphere and society. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the newly constructed Engineer Abdul Khalek Auditorium at the Chattogram Press Club, he highlighted the importance of upholding agreements reached through extensive discussions to safeguard democracy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khasru underscored the necessity of political dialogue rooted in consensus to advance democracy and societal cohesion. He pointed out that over the past 15 years, a lack of communication and participation in the democratic process has persisted, necessitating resolution through constructive dialogue. He further emphasized the significance of collective participation and responsibility in shaping a new and better future for Bangladesh, asserting that progress is achievable only through positive contributions from all sectors.

City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, who attended as a special guest, lauded Engineer Abdul Khalek as a visionary who championed the country’s independence through his work with Daily Azadi. Meanwhile, MA Malek, Editor of Daily Azadi, criticized the use of the term “Mofassal Patrika” for newspapers outside Dhaka, deeming it discriminatory. He recounted how his father founded Azadi to communicate the experiences of Chattogram’s people to the government rather than seeking validation from Dhaka.

The auditorium’s renovation and redesign were funded by Daily Azadi in memory of its founder, Engineer Abdul Khalek, as explained by those involved. The event was presided over by Zahidul Karim Kochi, Member Secretary of the Chattogram Press Club, with Golam Maula Murad, Interim Committee Member, moderating the program.

The ceremony also featured addresses from Dainik Azadi Managing Editor Wahid Malek, Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Bangladesh Chapter Chairman Osman Gani Mansur, and several other esteemed guests. The gathering was attended by individuals from various sectors, including journalists, politicians, and other professionals.
