Dhaka: Commerce, Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Textiles and Jute Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin emphasized the importance of product diversification, supply capacity expansion, and international relationship building for Bangladesh's sustainable export growth. Bashir made these remarks at the opening of the "Global Sourcing Expo 2025 Dhaka" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Adviser highlighted the significance of the Global Sourcing Expo in fostering dialogue, collaboration, and long-term business partnerships. This event enables experts, manufacturers, policymakers, investors, and innovators from both domestic and international spheres to exchange ideas. He noted that with Bangladesh's upcoming graduation from the Least Developed Country category, the nation faces new challenges as preferential market benefits and tariff concessions will gradually decline.
Bashir Uddin stressed the necessity for Bangladesh to diversify its products and export markets rapidly, enhance competitiveness, and adopt forward-looking trade policies to manage this transition successfully. In this light, the organization of the Global Sourcing Expo is considered both timely and strategically crucial for the country's future.
Dr. Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy for International Affairs to the Chief Adviser, attended the event as a special guest. Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), delivered the welcome speech, and Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman chaired the program. Other notable guests included FBCCI Administrator and Additional Secretary (Export), Ministry of Commerce, Md Abdur Rahim Khan, and BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem.
The Global Sourcing Expo, organized by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce, marks Bangladesh's first-ever effort to showcase its export potential in the global market. The three-day event, running until December 3, highlights eight major export sectors: readymade garments, leather and leather goods, jute and jute products, agricultural products, plastics and kitchenware, home decor and furniture, pharmaceuticals, and information and communication technology (ICT).
Participants include over a hundred companies from these sectors, alongside multinational enterprises, wholesalers, and supply-chain representatives. Buyers, investors, and sourcing organizations from countries including Afghanistan, China, Iran, Japan, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the UAE, the USA, and others are attending the expo. They will engage in B2B meetings, trade negotiations, and purchase contract finalizations. The expo also features 10 thematic seminars, both online and offline B2B sessions, more than 150 stalls, networking events, and a fashion show.
