Global Covid cases top 625 million

The overall number of global Covid cases has crossed 625 million.

 

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 625,547,425 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,557,697 on Friday morning.

 

The US has recorded 98,474,755 cases so far and 1,087,350 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.

 

India recorded 686 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, a decrease from the daily caseload of 2,459 recorded on Wednesday, according to the federal health ministry data released on Wednesday.

 

India’s total tally of Covid-19 cases has risen to 44,605,149, with the active caseload being 32,968 currently.

 

The country also logged 12 new Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 528,745 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

 

Covid in Bangladesh

 

Bangladesh reported another Covid-linked death with 410 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.

 

The country’s total fatalities rose to 29,375 with the new death. The new cases raised the country’s total caseload to 2,028,524, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

 

The daily case test positivity rate declined to 10.76% from Wednesdayโ€™s 13.86% as 3,800 samples were tested.

 

The latest deceased was a man from Dhaka division.

 

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45% and the recovery rate rose slightly to 97.01%.
