Global Covid cases top 601 million

The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 601 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 601,561,186 and the death toll reached 6,473,780 on Tuesday morning.

The US has recorded 95,449,606 cases so far and 1,066,082 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India’s daily Covid-19 caseload Monday slipped to 6,483, taking the total tally to 44,355,443 in the country, according to the federal health ministry data.

The cases reported on Monday marked a decrease in comparison to the daily caseload of Sunday’s — 11,539.

The country also logged 36 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 527,368 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Bangladesh reported another death from Covid-19 and 178 new cases in 24 hours till Monday morning.

With the new numbers, the country’s total fatalities rose to 29,316 and the caseload to 2,010,148, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case test positivity rate decreased to 3.15 percent from Sundayโ€™s 3.76 percent as 5,656 samples were tested.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. The recovery rate rose to 97.21 percent from Sunday’s 97.20 percent.
