Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today announced that measures are being implemented to include genuine freedom fighters who were previously omitted from the official list under various circumstances.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that during past authoritarian regimes, many authentic freedom fighters were excluded due to their involvement in opposition politics. Additionally, there were several other reasons for their omission. The current government, since taking office, has initiated steps to rectify this by accepting applications for inclusion on the official list.
Khan explained that these applications undergo thorough scrutiny and verification. Only those confirmed as legitimate freedom fighters are added to the list. Concurrently, the government is reviewing and validating the names currently on the list to identify any individuals who may have been included through irregular means, despite not being genuine freedom fighters.
The minister noted that individuals identified as non-freedom fighters are being systematically removed from the list, with numerous names already deleted. He emphasized that creating a precise and truthful register of freedom fighters is a primary goal of the government.
Khan concluded by stating that the ongoing efforts serve to both recognize the genuine freedom fighters and purge the list of those included through improper channels.
