Gender Equality Crucial for Building Discrimination-Free Bangladesh

Panchagarh: Speakers at a women’s rally have stated that gender parity is a crucial component for building a discrimination-free Bangladesh. Women should have equal access to every sphere of development as they constitute almost 50 percent of the total population of the country, they highlighted at the rally on the socio-economic development of women held at the Panchagarh Sadar Union Parishad hall room.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Panchagarh District Information Office organized the rally, as mentioned in a press release from PID’s Rangpur Regional Office. The event saw participation from one hundred women representing different professions.



Additional Deputy Commissioner Suman Chandra Das attended as the chief guest at the rally, which was presided over by Panchagarh Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Md Al Imran. Deputy Director of the Panchagarh Youth Development Department Md Maksudul Kabir, Assistant Director of the District Narcotics Control Department Rahul Sen, and Information Officer of the Panchagarh District Information Office Md Haider Ali were present as special guests.



The chief guest emphasized the importance of both men and women in society, likening them to two wheels necessary for societal progress. He stressed the necessity of providing appropriate education and employment opportunities to women to make them self-reliant. Additionally, he addressed the issue of child marriage, describing it as a major obstacle to societal progress and urged collective efforts to prevent it.



Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Md Al Imran condemned violence against women, labeling it a crime, and noted that women are not a burden on society. He emphasized the need to ensure equal rights for men and women across all fields of development.
