Gazipur:A tribunal in Gazipur has sentenced a schoolteacher to life imprisonment for the rape of a six-year-old student in 2019. The verdict was delivered by Judge Abu Bakar Siddique of the Gazipur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convicted teacher, Anwar Hossain Khan, son of Karim Khan, was an assistant teacher at a local school in the Gacha area of Gazipur city. He was tried in absentia and has also been fined Tk 1 lakh, which the court ordered to be paid to the victim. The tribunal instructed that if Khan fails to pay the fine, his immovable property should be sold.
The prosecution detailed that the assault occurred on August 31, 2019, when the teacher took the young girl to the school's office room while other teachers were absent and committed the crime. A case was subsequently filed by the victim's family with Gacha Police Station on September 5, 2019.
