Dhaka: The Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, is set to assume the duties of the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh following the resignation of President Mohammed Sahabuddin. This change in leadership is dictated by Article 54 of the Constitution, which mandates that the Speaker will fulfill presidential duties until a new President is elected.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the transition of responsibilities became effective after President Mohammed Sahabuddin resigned from office on July 24. In response to this development, the Cabinet Division has issued a gazette notification to formalize the process.
The gazette, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Gani, emphasizes that the order is to be executed immediately, aligning with constitutional requirements. Additionally, the Cabinet Division's website has published the gazette, which confirms the acceptance of Sahabuddin's resignation and the temporary appointment of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram as the acting head of state.
