Dhaka: Two individuals suffered burn injuries following a gas cylinder explosion at Mirpur Paikpara Officers Quarters in the capital. The incident occurred on Saturday around 4 pm at Flat No. 8, Building No. 5 within the residential complex.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the injured individuals have been identified as Mohammad Al-Amin, aged 30, and Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Sarkar, aged 28, both of whom work as cylinder and gas mechanics. Following the explosion, the victims were initially taken to a local hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) for advanced treatment.
Khalilur Rahman, the elder brother of Al-Amin, recounted the sequence of events leading to the accident. “On Saturday afternoon, we called mechanic Shafiqul when there was a problem with the cylinder gas at our house. All of a sudden, the gas cylinder exploded and my brother Al-Amin and the gas mechanic Shafiqul suffered burn injuries,” Rahman stated.
Medical professionals at the burn institute have reported that both patients are in critical condition, having sustained inhalation burns. Al-Amin has suffered burns covering 30 percent of his body, while Shafiqul has 15 percent burn injuries. The medical team is closely monitoring their conditions as they receive treatment.
