Fugitive war criminal held in city

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested

a warranted fugitive war criminal from Shyampur area in the city on Saturday.

The arrested was identified as Morshad Mosharraf Hossain Mia, son of late

Abdul Hannan Mia alias Chona Molla, resident of Kashiani Police Station of

Gopalganj district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-10 conducted a drive in the city’s

Faridabad area of Shyampur Police Station and arrested the war criminal

Morshad Mosharraf Hossain Mia around 11pm on Saturday, RAB-10 Assistant

Director and ASP (Media) Enayet Kabir Shoaib told BSS today.

On November 16, 2014, a case was filed against him at the International

Crimes Tribunal ICT).

On February 2 in 2022, the International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest

warrant against Morshad Mia for committing crimes against humanity during the

Liberation War in 1971.

During the preliminary interrogation, the detainee admitted that he had been

hiding in various parts of the country under disguise.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned tribunal today,

the RAB officials added.
