Fugitive Life-Term Convict in Nilphamari Murder Case Held in Dhaka

Dhaka: A life-term convict, who had been on the run for long after being sentenced for murder in Nilphamari district, was arrested from Hemayetpur (Purbahat) area of Savar Police Station in Dhaka on Friday night. The convict, identified as Zillur, 55, was apprehended with the support of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 and RAB-4, a RAB press release said here this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zillur is the son of Md Bachcha Mahmud of Magura (Dolapara) village of Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district. The arrested person was an accused in a murder case in Kishoreganj Police Station of Nilphamari district, and the police filed a charge sheet against him under sections 302/34 in 2000.

Later, after a trial in his absence, Zillur was sentenced to life imprisonment, and a warrant was issued in his name. On a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-13's Headquarters Company in Rangpur and RAB-4's Crime Prevention Company-2 in Savar camp arrested Zillur from Hemayetpur (Purbahat) area of Savar Police Station around 9:35 pm.

The arrested accused has been handed over to Kishoreganj Police Station in Nilphamari for further action, the release added.
