Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a fugitive death-row convict from Alikhan Mosque area under Chawkbazar Police Station in Chattogram last night. The arrested individual was identified as Khorshedul Alam Prakash Abul Kalam, 58, son of the late Sirajul Haque of Nanupur Union of Fatikchhari upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a RAB team conducted the operation in the area after receiving a tip-off and successfully apprehended Kalam, as confirmed by Senior Assistant Director of RAB-7, Chattogram, A.R.M. Mozaffar Hossain. Kalam has been handed over to Fatikchhari police station for further legal proceedings.
The case dates back to April 11, 2011, when an expatriate named Yunus was hacked to death in Nanupur village of Fatikchhari upazila over a land dispute. The following day, Yunus’s wife, Khatija Akhter, filed a murder case with Fatikchhari police station. Subsequently, on January 30, 2019, the Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced two brothers, Jahedul Alam Prakash Loha Jahed and Khorshedul Alam Prakash Abul Kalam, to death for their involvement in the murder.
