Sylhet: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has successfully apprehended a fugitive death-row convict from the Purba Jaflong area under Gowainghat upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest took place following a coordinated effort by a team from RAB-19 and a company from the Habiganj unit. The convict, Fazal Miah, is the son of the late Ashab Ali from Adityapur village in Nabiganj upazila of the Habiganj district.
RAB officials reported that Fazal Miah was on the run after hacking his mother to death on October 29, 2005, due to a trivial dispute. This heinous act prompted his brother, Abdur Rashid, to file a murder case with Nabiganj Thana, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings.
The judicial process culminated in a Habiganj court sentencing Fazal Miah to the death penalty. After his arrest, he was handed over to Nabiganj Thana, where further legal actions are set to proceed.
