Fugitive Arrested in Munshiganj Over Student Movement Killing

Munshiganj: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended a fugitive accused in the murder case of Shahid Abdul Kaiyum, a 25-year-old university student, who was killed during an anti-discrimination student movement in Sirajdikhan upazila. The arrest took place on Wednesday.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individual has been identified as Md. Amir Hossen, 40, the son of the late Ahed Ali from Bederpara Boktapur area under Savar Police Station. The arrest was made at 3 pm when a RAB-10 team conducted a raid in the land office area of Sirajdikhan upazila, as per an official release from RAB-10.

The incident traces back to August 5 of the previous year when Abdul Kaiyum was shot on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway amid an anti-discrimination student protest, as mentioned in the release. Following the shooting, Kaiyum was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

In the aftermath of the incident, a case was filed by the victim's mother at Savar Model Police Station. RAB sources confirmed that the accused, Md. Amir Hossen, has been handed over to Savar Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.
