Kishoreganj: Fish fry have been released into various water bodies in Pakundia upazila of the district to increase indigenous fish production and conserve nearly extinct native fish species. Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency lawmaker Advocate Md Jalal Uddin released the fish fry at a function as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fry were formally released at the Upazila Parishad pond and at Bhilbhara Beel in Adityapasha area of Egarasindur union around 10.30 am today. The programme was implemented by the Upazila Fisheries Office.
Jalal Uddin highlighted that the government's initiative was crucial for increasing the production of indigenous fish and protecting nearly extinct species. He emphasized that regular release of fish fry in open and institutional water bodies can help meet local protein demand as well as strengthen the rural economy.
The programme was launched under the revenue budget of the 2026-27 fiscal year for releasing fish fry in institutional and inland open water bodies. The lawmaker urged all concerned to raise awareness to increase fish breeding and production in water bodies. He also stressed the need for effective measures to stop illegal fishing to protect indigenous fish species.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rupam Das, officials and employees of the district and upazila fisheries offices, local dignitaries, and people from different walks of life attended the programme.
