Fresher’s Reception for Master’s Students in Media and Journalism Held at PIB

Dhaka: The Fresher’s reception for the master’s programme students in media and journalism for the academic year 2024 of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) was held at its auditorium today. Mahbuba Farjana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the event.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Vice-Chancellor of the National University Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah, Acting President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, and General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club Ayub Bhuiyan also attended the event, as mentioned in a PIB press release. At the beginning of the event, a documentary on ‘Shrabon Bidroho’ based on the July Uprising was screened, followed by a floral welcome for the master’s programme 2024 students.



The program was presided over by Faruk Wasif, Director General of the PIB. Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah, addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of advancing journalism in Bangladesh in tandem with developments in information and communication technology. He remarked on the evolution of traditional media theories and studies in the current era.



Dr. Amanullah stressed the necessity for journalists to acquire skills in AI and big data to stay relevant with contemporary issues. In his concluding remarks, PIB Director General Faruk Wasif underscored the need for combating disinformation. He highlighted the power of truth and urged journalists to dismantle false narratives, encouraging them to take a leading role in this effort.



The event was attended by students of the Post Graduate diploma programme, PIB officials, and employees, among others.
