Dhaka: French Ambassador Jean-Marc S©r©-Charlet paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at Police Headquarters today. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Bangladesh Police and the French National Police and Gendarmerie.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion centered around current efforts to enhance the overall capacity of the Bangladesh Police. The IGP highlighted that, in preparation for the upcoming national parliamentary elections, police personnel are receiving intensive and practical training. Alam also pointed out the integration of modern technology to maintain law and order during the electoral process, ensuring special protocols are in place for foreign observers and diplomatic missions.
Alam expressed confidence in the ability of international observers to carry out their duties smoothly, with the support of the Bangladesh Police's professionalism and robust security arrangements. Meanwhile, Ambassador S©r©-Charlet conveyed France's interest in expanding cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, cyber security, criminal investigation, specialized training, and institutional capacity building. He emphasized France's willingness to provide technical support, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives in the security sector.
The meeting also explored potential collaboration in promoting human rights-based policing, democratic policing principles, and the rule of law. Senior officials of the Bangladesh Police were present during the meeting.
