Pabna: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has emphasized the critical nature of press freedom in ensuring the flow of information while highlighting the necessity of shielding the public from misinformation. The minister made these remarks during an interaction with journalists following the inauguration of a tree plantation program organized by the Young Journalist Forum at the Pabna Zila School premises this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Swapon acknowledged the transformative impact that cyber space and digital media have had on the concept of information dissemination. However, he noted that the existing laws have not been adequately updated to meet these new challenges. He expressed his commitment to modernizing the information ministry, promising that necessary and timely reforms will soon be implemented to address these issues.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Parliament Member of Pabna Sadar constituency Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, District BNP Convener Habibur Rahman Habib, Member Secretary Advocate Masud Khandakar, Pabna JASAS Convener Khaled Ahmed Parag, President of District Young Journalist Forum Tarek Khan, and its General Secretary Roni Imran.
