Naogaon: Distribution of free seeds and fertilizers among small and marginal farmers was launched under a government programme in Atrai upazila of the district to boost crop production. The programme, organized by the upazila administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension, was inaugurated on the upazila premises this morning, followed by a discussion meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Md. Alaul Islam presided over the event, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Prasenjit Talukdar delivered the welcome speech. Talukdar emphasized the government’s farmer-friendly initiatives, which aim to reduce production costs and secure ongoing food production. He expressed optimism that the proper use of improved seeds and fertilizers would help exceed production targets in Atrai.
The upazila agriculture office reported that under the programme, 50 farmers received jute seeds and fertilizers, 30 farmers received sesame seeds and fertilizers, and 20 farmers received mung bean seeds and fertilizers. Additionally, six farmers were provided with air flow machines for modern onion preservation. As the largest part of the programme, 3,000 farmers received seeds and fertilizers for cultivating high-yielding Aus paddy.
