Dhaka: Four more parliamentary standing committees were formed today, bringing the total number of committees in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad to 40. The four newly constituted committees include the Parliamentary Committee on Rules of Procedure, the Committee on Government Assurances, the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, and the Petition Committee.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, has been appointed Chairman of both the Committee on Rules of Procedure and the Petition Committee. Meanwhile, BNP lawmaker AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon from Noakhali-1 has been made Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances, and BNP lawmaker Rezaul Karim Badsha from Bogura-6 has been designated as Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni put forward the proposals for the formation of the first three committees, while Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal proposed the creation of the Petition Committee. These proposals were subsequently approved by voice votes in the House.
In the Jatiya Sangsad, there are 50 parliamentary committees, comprising 39 standing committees focused on various ministries and 11 subject-based committees. To date, 40 committees have been established, including 31 standing committees on ministries and nine subject-based committees.
