Jassore: At least four people, including a child, lost their lives and another was injured in a road accident on the Jassore-Khulna highway in Sadar upazila today. The tragic incident took place in front of Chaulia Fuel Station in the Rupdia area around noon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as easy-bike driver Mohammad Ayub Ali, 43, Brishti Saha, 24, her four-year-old son Souvik Saha, and van driver Anwar Ali, 70. Mohammad Ayub Ali hailed from Ghunipurbpara village, Brishti Saha from Ghoragacha Sahapara village, and Anwar Ali from Chaulia village.
Witnesses reported that a Khulna-bound covered van lost control near Chaulia Fuel Station, crashing into an easy-bike and an engine-run van. The impact resulted in the immediate deaths of easy-bike driver Ayub Ali and passenger Brishti Saha. Locals promptly acted to rescue the injured and transported them to Jassore General Hospital. Unfortunately, Anwar Ali and young Souvik Saha succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Dr. Shakirul Islam, a medical officer at Jassore General Hospital, stated that another injured person, Sajjad Hossain, 28, is currently receiving treatment and remains in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge of Jassore Kotwali Police Station, Masum Khan, confirmed that the bodies were sent to Jassore General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The involved covered van has been seized by the police, and legal proceedings are in progress.
